It tried it out at lunch time. Instead of concentrating on, let's say, somebody's hair, I focused on their eyes. I went to the food counter twice - the first time, as usual, I said "Please" and "Thank you" to the lunch lady. The second time, I said neither, just to see how different a person acts. I noticed how, no matter how close you are, your friends will always leave you the seat covered in some stranger's crumbs. After that, I concentrated on the nervous twitch some teachers get when you have minature staring contests across the classroom; I saw how different people wear their schoolbags (The bizarrely eager ones hitched right up their backs, while the "play-it-cool" guys so low its at their knees). It's actually a lot of fun - teaching your mind to look past the blaring, stating-the-obvious signs and look for something else instead.

What else happened today? Well, a woman from the local newspaper came to talk to me about my Pushkin Prize (Aaah, so excited!) and took my picture! It's incredible! I can't quite believe that people are going to be reading about this - I'm not used people really being interested in something I've actually achieved! (May I point out now that I very rarely use exclamation marks, perhaps that gives you an indication of just how excited I am).

Anyhow, hopefully everything will sort itself out in the end. Until then, I plan on keeping up my Amelie-inspired-work and looking forward to my week away at writing camp!
